A raucous orkestra of klezmer mayhem,  Hazaar are a six piece band consisting of clarinet/sax, violin, flute, guitar, double bass and drums.

Hazaar's set is bursting with character from many genres that combine to create an authentic yet modern, on-the-edge approach to the klezmer traditions. They play unique arrangements fusing traditional eastern european tunes with elements of funk, dub, pop, rock and jazz.

A band guaranteed to bring laughter, song and dance!

A glick hot dich getrofen!

There goes another summer. Hazaar have been honoured to be a part of some lovely couples special day. We have had great fun performing at festivals, parties and events across the country. We have also all been on our holidays which has seen the Hazaarians scattered and stranded at various locations such as Alpine mountains, Indonesian airports, Bell tent villages and abandoned Cornish pubs.
However the exodus is over and we have returned to bring home the sweaty mayhem!
Some interesting gigs coming up both new and classic so check the gig list and peruse Facebook, hope to see you soon.Inshallah.

Tsupa dupa!

2014?? It disappeared faster than the complimentary drinks!

I trust everyone enjoyed the ride on ‘year of the horse’. The Hazaarians certainly did, however for us it was more ‘year of the function’. Our raucous pub gigs were replaced with beautiful marquees, tipis and manor houses. Our hosts were welcoming, warm and well upfrit!

The summer brought us a new recruit, the king of ‘Bezmer’, Owen. A voice that causes such seismic activity we get hounded by fracking protesters. Owen also knows how to throw gypsy shapes, hence the ‘Bezmer’ moniker. A melting pot of Klezmer music and Bez from the Happy Mondays!!
There was still the occasional public outing, Beautiful Days festival, Kingsbridge Food and Drink festival and a blistering set for Moretonhamstead Music Day were my personal highlights. October saw the arrival of Rudy, Rupert’s third son. A blues legend in the making Rudy joins Ollie and Mo in the McDonald musical dynasty.

The year was topped off in our own back yard at the Ring of Bells North Bovey, We aired a few ‘alternatives’ from the back catalogue which made for an interesting set.

To be amongst friends in a pub on windswept dartmoor on the eve of new year playing the tunes we love, ain’t bad eh?

So to the new year...

A return to Exeter’s favourite live venue The Old Firehouse for a residency beginning on Saturday January 17th. The Hazaarians are amped up for this one, it could be a classic. So come and dance!

Bridford Bukuria and Beyond!

The summer is hotting up for the Devonshire Party Style Klezmer Protagonistas!
The end of April was marked with a sweaty set of bearded revelry at The Drewe Arms, Drewsteignton. We were joined on stage by our newest recruit, Owen (Rasputin). Like a hairy Russian chanteuse Owen has a presence on stage that cannot be broadcasted through this humble blog. It must be witnessed!
The jolly old knees up at the Drewe also featured a guest spot by Lawrence the landlord who managed to sing his announcements in time to 'Suddenly My Hamster Was Sick On The Carpet'!
So a good night was had by all..
After a short intermission (and who knows maybe a rehearsal) we are heading down the Teign Valley to the Bridford Inn on the 26th May for a relatively civilised afternoon gig that will delight Dentists (2.30 start).
Then the 1st June takes us deep into the rolling hills of the South Hams where we plan to binge on hummus  before taking to the stage to close the Kingsbridge Food and Drink Festival. Lots of great acts so worth going even if the dips run out!
After that it's private parties and such like, but some festival news still to announce and I reckon some more pub dates as I'm sure it is not my turn to drive!
